Headaches occur in cluster or patterns. Intense one sided headache with pain around the eye. Episodes of headache occur in cluster periods, can last from weeks to month followed by remission. Headache actually doesn’t occur for months or even years.
Symptoms
- Pain in and around the eye which radiate to face, head, behind the ear and neck.
- Cluster headaches are usually one-sided.
- Nausea and aura before an episode of headache may persist.
- Redness and tearing pain in the eyes.
- Sometimes there may be swelling around the eye of affected side.
- Drooping of eyelids.
- Sensitivity to light during headache.
- Restless and agitation persist due to intense pain
Usually these headaches start two-three hours after going to bed. May last for about 15mins to 3hours. These headaches usually occur at same time each day.
Causes
Exact cause for cluster headaches is unknown but it is said that pain is caused by dilation of blood vessels that supply blood to brain and face. Due to this, pressure on trigeminal nerve occurs leading to pain.
Alcohol consumption also cause pain or may increase the pain during the episodes. Being sober can help in most of the individuals.
Homeopathic approach
Homeopathic medicine has good remedies for headache. Usually cluster headaches are one sided, remedies like Sang can is helpful for right sided headache and Spigelia, Bryonia for left sided headaches. For pain around the eyes Silicea and Kali carb are helpful. Remedies like Natrum mur, Natrum carb are helpful when there is aggravation after exposure to sunlight. Iris versicolor is helpful when the headache are severe and associated with vomiting.
