Folliculitis

Hair follicle gets infected and inflamed with a small raised bump. Hair follicles are small cavities surrounds the roots of hair. Folliculitis can occur where ever hair is present, most common occur on thighs, armpits, neck, eye lids, etc. 
Can be seen as a small bump like acne or a rash. It can be acute or chronic. Can be seen in single or multiple hair follicle are affected.
Symptoms
  • Red, raised acne like rash.
  • Itching and burning.
  • Swelling 
  • Abscess or pus.
  • Painful, tenderness on touch.
Causes
Folliculitis is caused by infection of hair follicles with staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Places where friction is often much like thigh, armpits and neck infection can be seen. Excessive sweating, tight clothing can contribute to folliculitis.
Contamination with personal towels, soaps, or clothing who already have infection can lead to infection to other people.
Prevention and management
  • Avoid shaving, waxing and removing hair by plucking. This can lead to more infection.
  • Refrain from wearing tight clothes.
  • Avoid sharing personal care products.
  • Maintain hygiene and bath twice a day.
  • Keep the skin moisture.
