Food allergy

Food allergy is immune response reaction that is caused after eating certain food. Immune system wrongly recognises some of the food substances as harmful and releases some chemicals called histamine. This in turn causes inflammation, swelling and other anaphylactic reactions.
Slightest exposure in shortest time interval after eating causes reaction. These food allergies are different for different individuals. The reactions produced after allergy are also different.
Symptoms
  • Swelling of tongue
  • Swelling and itching all over the body or only on face
  • Puffiness of eyes
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Decreased blood pressure
  • Rashes all over the body
  • Vomiting and nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Dizziness and light-headedness
Anaphylactic reaction like constriction and tightening of airways, shortness of breath, swollen throat and tongue, rapid pulse and potential life threatening conditions like shock can occur. These need immediate health care.
Dairy products, eggs, fish, wheat, peanuts, mustard, oysters, nuts, etc. are common food allergies.
Causes
Immune reaction response against some food causes food allergies. Immune system wrongly recognise some food substances as foreign particles and develop chemicals called histamines. These cause allergic reaction on the body.
