Pain in the hips radiating down into the lower limbs is a common symptom of dysmenorrhoea
Freedom to woman would be freedom to the country, Mahatma Gandhi had opined and it is all true today. Last Monday of May was dedicated to the Health of women and this article also salutes the same.
Every woman on the planet is still troubled by the niggles
and one of them is the painful periods or dysmenorrhoea which pegs pack
her day-to-day life during the periods, diminishing her energy and
productivity too. Some amount of pain or discomfort during the phase is
supposed to be “normal” but only if the pain sort of pulls down a
woman and inhibits her daily routine for a day or two every month then
it needs to be addressed.
The ovaries which release the eggs or the ovum, the
oestrogen, which have built up the inner all of the uterus or the
endometrium as a preparation for conception, starts shedding down with
the help of another hormone called progesterone. This is done by
muscular contractions of the walls of the uterus to expel the
endometrial layer. During the contraction there is a lack of oxygen in
the middle of the muscular layer of the uterus, so as to prevent
further loss of too much of blood during the cycle. This is further
exacerbated when the prostaglandins cause further contraction and
thereby pain ensues.
Cramping lower abdominal pain and sometimes pain in the
hips radiating down into the lower limbs are the common symptoms of
dysmenorrhoea. Nausea and vomiting are common too and diarrhoea is seen
to be associated with the pain. Pain could start a day or two before
the menses and could be at its peak when the bleeding is also high but
usually comes down after the second day of the menstrual bleeding.
Headache further could pull down the young woman in concentrating at
her work. Missing school, office or a sporting event during this phase
happen often.
Needless to say a little exercise, regularly would go a
long way in correcting dysmenorrhoea. Walking, cycling, swimming are
the common and helpful ways. Homoeopathic medicine has good remedies to
correct this condition by relieving the pain discomfort, nausea,
vomiting, headache etc. Over a period of time the pain during periods
would come down in intensity with medication with every subsequent
month. When the period is upset by nausea, vomiting, Apocyanum is the usual remedy to c orrect it. Cimcifuga
helps by getting rid of the headache and irritability common during
that point of time apart from the muscular pain of the lower limbs. Mag phos is probably the best to relieve the abdominal pain in young girls. Viburnum opulus is for the cramping pain and Senecio
helps if anaemia is associated with this situation. All in all,
homoeopathic medicine helps the young woman not to let her guard down
and have a c heerful day, any day of the month.
Nasal polyps
I suffer from frequent colds which was supposed to
be due to nasal polyps and was operated upon two years ago. It has
recurred now. Even in summer I have been suffering with this nasal
discharge and blocking. Investigations revealed polyps again. Can
homoeopathy help?
Eashwar
Nasal polyps, frequent colds are a sign of nasal allergy
and homoeopathic medicine has good remedies to keep the allergy at bay
with simple remedies such as Sabadilla, Arum tryp, Thuja, Ars alb. Consult a homoeopath.
Scalp Psoriasis
I am 18 years old and developed scaling of the
scalp two years ago which was supposed to be due to dandruff but then
it flared up to most of the areas of the scalp with itching and
burning. Since six months I also have pain in the fingers a nd toes
which is supposed to be due to Psoriatic arthritis. I am under
treatment but there is no respite in either the scaling of the scalp or
the joint pains. Can homoeopathy help?
Sana
Psoriasis can cause dryness and scaling of the skin
including that of the scalp and Psoriasis as such can also lead to a
type of arthritis if it persists in an individual over a period of
time. Homoeopathic medicine has good remedies to see that the disease
goes into remission or an inactive phase by helping you symptomatically
relieved of the itching of the scalp and pain in the joints to start
with.
Cervicitis
I am a 47-year-old woman and underwent a master
health check-up recently. The only report which is not normal is
Cervicitis detected after a Pap smear. It also shows no abnormal cells.
Does homoeopathy have a remedy?
abc
Once the lab investigations have ruled out any “abnormal
cells” there is nothing much to be worried about but for the
inflammation of the cervix with infection which is not uncommon and can
be treated with homoeopathic Medicine. Caladium, Ac.nit, Borax are a few remedies which would help such a cause.
Cholesterol
I am 39-year-old and cholesterol level is 239mg/dl.
I do not have any problem as such as all other tests are normal too.
Does it warrant medication?
Lalith
High levels of lipids like cholesterol and triglycerides
tend to percolate to the walls of the blood vessels and over a period
of time cause clogging and the chances of a heart attack increase and
thereby it is pertinent that these levels are always under normal
limits. Though the level you have is just above normal and not a cause
for concern with a proper diet and exercise it can be curtailed and a
three month schedule would reveal it. But after the period if it
remains the same you need to look for medical help too.
If there is a simple, safe and swift path to recovery of health then it has to be homoeopathy. Founded more than two centuries ago by Dr.Samuel Hahnemann, a German Physician, pained with the therapy of the times was on search for an alternative and discored Homoeopathy.
